DENVER CITY - New details about an Amber Alert out of Denver City.

Police there called the alert off and are stepping up search efforts.

NewsWest 9 learned on Tuesday night that Denver City Police decided to do away with the Amber Alert.

Now, they say they're handling it as a missing person case.

Police say they changed the status of their search, because it'll allow them to focus more time on the investigation, and they'll be able to follow up on leads much better.

They're searching for three-year-old Mitchell Romero who's been missing since Friday.

That's when police say, his father Mario Romero, shot and killed Veronica Romero, and took off with the little boy.

A warrant is out for Romero's arrest.

There is talk he could be headed to Mexico.

The two were last seen in Denver City, driving a Maroon 2004 Yukon.

If you have any information on the location of Mario Romero or the missing boy, please contact the Denver City Police Department at 806-592-3516.
