Bank Surveillance PhotosODESSA - Police in Odessa are currently investigating a bank robbery.
It happened at Security State Bank at 42nd and Tanglewood Friday morning. Police say a black man walked into the bank around 9:50 a.m. and demanded money. He was armed with a gun.
The suspect is described as a black male, in his early to mid twenties, 5 foot 10 inches tall, 180 pounds wearing a black hoodie with Sean Jean written on the back. He also had a white shirt and dark blue jeans.
He was last seen running south from the bank.
Blanton Elementary School and Nimitz Junior High went on high alert for several hours and sheltered in place, meaning the doors to the schools were locked and no one was allowed in our out.
ECISD says that both schools have resumed normal operations and the sheltering in place is over. After school transportation will run on its normal schedule.
Odessa Police have set up a perimeter and are attempting to locate the suspect. Citizens are being asked to avoid the area if at all possible. The bank location has been closed.
Odessa Police, DPS, the Ector County Sheriff's Office and the FBI are all on the scene.
