MIDLAND - With tents up and needles out, volunteers gathered in Midland hoping to get the community to donate food and blood to those in need, but some say getting donations isn't easy.

"This time of year because of people busy shopping and spending time with family, no one has time to donate. So it's very crucial that they give us their time," United Blood Services Employee, Blanca Cordova said.

Cordova says even with the shortage in blood donations, United Blood Services offered their help to those in Fort Hood after the recent tragedy.

"We did offer our help, but it looks like they had it taken care of, but we're always here in case they need someone," Cordova said.

It's not just United Blood Services that's struggling with donations, the West Texas Food Bank is as well, and some say the economy is to blame.

"This has been one of the toughest years for them, so it's been difficult to put food on the shelves and feed folks. Everybody's been impacted by the economy," Mike Lawrence with Kicks 99 Radio, said.

Many folks at the M.A.S.H drive say they're hopeful donations will pull through in time for the holiday season.

"If you bring a bag of food, you'll make a difference," Lawrence said.
