BIG SPRING - The V.A. Hospital in Big Spring is expanding, both in terms of buildings and the services they offer.

On Friday, they broke ground on a new housing building that helps Veterans dealing with addictions.

This new project will help homeless Veterans deal with addictions in a 90 day rehab program. It's the result of a year-long study done by the federal government.

Right now, the building they have can only house 15 Veterans. But the new building more than doubles their capacity. It will hold up to 40 Vets. They won't just get rehab for substance abuse in this program, the VA hopes the Veterans will also develop the skills they need to get a job.

The new 27,000 square foot building will also help Big Spring's economy, 70 construction workers will be hired to build it.

Right now, the goal is to wrap up construction by next December.

Once it's up and running. The VA hospital says they plan to add on 10 to 15 new staff members.
