Hobbs Teen Sentenced for Killing Mother's Boyfriend

HOBBS - A Hobbs teenager will serve time behind bars for killing his mother's boyfriend.

18-year-old Michael Evans Junior was sentenced to 19 years in prison earlier this week. Evans was arrested back in March when he was 17-years-old.

Police say Evans got into an argument with his mother's boyfriend, 56-year-old Darnell Mitchell. The fight escalated and Evans shot Mitchell in the head.

Evans was convicted of second degree murder and tampering with evidence and jurors decided to sentence him as an adult.
