Firefighters Contain Two Weekend Fires in Howard County

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

HOWARD COUNTY - High winds from Saturday's cold front may have been to blame for at least one of two fires in Howard County on Saturday.

Volunteer firefighters had to face the nasty weather after a grass fire ignited on Bates Road.

The fire burned about 15 acres, but no structures were damaged.

Howard County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tommy Sullivan says the cause of that fire may be due to electrical lines.

Another fire on Saturday also badly damaged a vacant structure just north of big spring in the 6000 block of Highway 87.

Nobody was hurt in this blaze and Sullivan says the cause is being investigated.
