BIG SPRING - New football turf is coming to big spring after a bone dry season.
On Thursday evening, the Big Spring ISD voted 6 to zero to have the turf put down at Memorial Stadium.
Administrators have debated the decision for a while now.
The rough and dry field has made it a hazard for young players but the money was the biggest factor.
The new field will cost about $800,000 to install.
Officials do think it will be worth it in the end as they hope it will boost the local economy by drawing in more playoff games.
The new uniform surface will be soft.
The field should be ready for the 2012 season.
