Aerocare Helicopter Makes Hard Landing in Big Lake, Nurse Injured

BIG LAKE - The National Transportation Safety Board has joined the federal aviation administration in their investigation into an Aerocare helicopter that made a hard landing in Big Lake on Saturday.

One nurse on board the plane was injured.

Just before noon Saturday, the medical aircraft carrying a pilot, nurse and a paramedic was transporting a patient from Fort Stockton to San Angelo.

On the way, the helicopter had mechanical problems.

According to a statement by Med Tran, the company who owned the aircraft, the helicopter eventually lost power, forcing the pilot to make a hard landing at the Big Lake Regional Airport.

The impact injured the nurse, 47-year-old Beth Hooper from San Antonio. She taken to Midland Memorial Hospital and is recovering.

The pilot, the paramedic and the patient were all ok but the patient was still taken to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

Officials were out for several hours investigating and cleaning up the debris.

The wreckage has been stored into hangar at the airport until Federal Aviation Administration officials arrive to complete the investigation.
